Every Once in a While, You Feel like Crap Comparing Yourself To Other People
“There’s always going to be somebody better than you, faster, more beautiful and that’s OK” I don’t remember where this saying came from, but this quote is like an iron fist – always holds true.
Facebook makes it worse sometimes, because you see all those fun things your peers are doing. You are butt-ridden at home, pondering over your laptop, wondering why you can’t have a perfect life like them. Why aren’t you the one going to parties, or having a life-altering study abroad to the city of your dreams? Maybe they have the perfect relationship. Or maybe they got your dream job as a writer of your favorite online magazine. You’re like, ok, “perfect” is only a relative measurement. But on Facebook, or in other words – on the surface, nobody reveals their hardships and frustrations. You only get to see the fun, spirited, smiling faces. It’s not fun to compare to other people but what can you do? Believe it or not, it is hard to be grateful. So it’s not a surprise that we only see the good in other people but leave much less for ourselves.
Is it possible to stop comparing? Personally, I think you can’t. Simply because we are never 100% satisfied with ourselves all the time. From time to time again, things like this will inevitably come up…. But I guess it just takes time to heal things over.
Not giving advice and not seeking them, just some thoughts that I hope you can relate.
